Scene 4. The newly crowned king and his advisers are now completely apathetic to the conduct of the War and much valuable time is wasted. A half-hearted attempt is made to wrest Paris from the English at the end of August and Jeanne is badly wounded. Shortly afterwards, with Charles's political councilors in the ascendancy, a truce is signed with the duke of Burgundy that brings hostilities to a halt.
